Dr Fiona Cowell is a Melbourne-based obstetrician and gynaecologist who specialises in infertility, high and low-risk obstetrics, and pre-pregnancy counselling. She enjoys being able to care for women and their families at such a special time in their lives. Dr Cowell has a particular interest in peri-menopause and menopause and she is committed to staying up-to-date on the latest changes in HRT treatment to ensure a smooth transition for women into this stage of their lives.


Dr Cowell holds a public appointment at the Mercy Hospital for Women and also consults at St Vincent's Private Hospital, Fitzroy, and Epworth Freemasons Victoria Parade, East Melbourne. She is a member of the Obstetric and Neonatal Committee at St Vincent's Private Hospital and is involved in implementing new evidence-based practices into the department. She is also a member of the Safer Care Victoria Maternity Clinical Network Insight committee that manages maternal and perinatal health outcomes in the Victoria area.


Dr Cowell qualified in 1997 from Monash University where she achieved the Queen Victoria Hospital Award. She then spent time working in a hospital in Tanzania where she was able to see first-hand how much great care can improve women's lives. Dr Cowell also spent time training at the Royal Women's Hospital and the Mercy Hospital for Women where she was subsequently appointed consultant obstetrician. She also completed a fellowship year of training in infertility with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists in 2009.


Dr Cowell has an interest in medical education and spends time teaching and mentoring junior staff at both Monash and Melbourne University. She also makes sure to attend regular seminars and conferences to stay up to date with the latest research.


Outside of work, Dr Cowell is kept busy by her three children, two dogs, and a cat. In her leisure time, she enjoys running, gardening, and travelling.
