About Dr Ferras Alwan
Dr. Ferras Alwan is a Consultant Haematologist with a specialised focus on bleeding disorders and thrombosis, including blood clots. He practises at Imperial College NHS Trust, where he serves as the Head of Service for Haemostasis and Thrombosis and the Centre Director of the Imperial Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre. Dr. Alwan’s clinical expertise encompasses the management of deep vein thromboses, pulmonary emboli, and blood clots related to cancer. He also addresses issues related to low platelet counts, unexplained bruising or bleeding, anticoagulation, thrombophilias, and rare haemostatic disorders such as haemophilia, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, and Von Willebrand Disease. In his academic career, Dr. Alwan has focused on congenital and acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, with his PhD research aimed at improving prognostication and identifying risk factors associated with this rare disorder.
