Dr. Pedro Oliveira Castanho specialized in neurosurgery in 2011 and has been a consultant neurosurgeon in the United Kingdom since 2014. He acquired very high standards and extensive experience in neurosurgery and had the privilege of learning directly from some of the best neurosurgeons in the world. He worked at some of the most reputed neurosurgical centers in Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Finland, and Brazil before becoming a consultant. His comprehensive training provides him with an excellent understanding across different domains of Neurosurgery including but not limited to: neurovascular conditions (brain aneurysms, vascular malformations), skull base surgery, brain tumors, pituitary surgery minimally invasive/endoscopic surgery degenerative spine surgeries, peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes & tumor removal.
Dr. Castanho also provides undergraduate & postgraduate teaching as an honorary senior clinical lecturer at University College London (UCL). In addition to his lectureship, he is often invited as a speaker for various courses & conferences both nationally & internationally. Furthermore; he loves teaching and has been heavily engaged with it throughout his career thus far- even coordinating & co-authoring publications for peer-reviewed scientific journals. Lastly; Dr. Oliveria Castanho is amongst one few pioneers worldwide when exploring exoscopic surgery methods.
