Dr Melita Irving, Consultant Geneticist, currently works within the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust. Dr Irving undertook a fellowship focusing on skeletal dysplasia at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne before establishing a multidisciplinary clinic for paediatric skeletal dysplasia and achondroplasia at Evelina London Children's Hospital in the UK.
Dr Irving is an active researcher focusing on clinical trials in children with skeletal dysplasia aiming to develop new methods and improve the existing ones for the diagnosis of severe skeletal conditions. She is the Principal Investigator in many of these trials and as well as an Honorary Reader in clinical genetics at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust. Her research has resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals on the topic of clinical genetics, she has also authored a book titled "Human DNA Manual".
Dr Irving also holds positions within several highly-respected associations including President of the Medical Genetics Section (2016-2019), and vice-chair of the Royal Society of Medicine's Ellison Cliffe Foundation. Her contributions to her field were recently recognised as she was awarded the Genetic Healthcare Provider (GHP) Private Healthcare Award in 2019.
