About Dr David Gorard
Dr David Gorard is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist in Buckinghamshire, UK. He qualified in 1984 at St Mary's Hospital (London), trained in general medicine at hospitals in London and the Midlands, and then undertook gastroenterology research at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. Subsequently he was senior registrar at the Royal London Hospital. Having been accredited as a specialist (GMC register) in General Medicine and in Gastroenterology, he was appointed as consultant at Wycombe Hospital in 1996. Dr David Gorard maintains a comprehensive gastroenterology practice, managing a wide range of symptoms and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. He performs high quality endoscopic procedures of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, and is accredited by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as a colonoscopist for the national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. At Wycombe Hospital he has served as Clinical Director of Medicine and chairman of the Medical Staff Committee. He has served as lead gastroenterologist for Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust (Wycombe Hospital and Stoke Mandeville Hospital). Having previously been regional representative/secretary for the Oxford region Gut club, he has more recently been president of the Oxford region Gut club. He has published several research papers relating to gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and general medicine in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Diseases, Medical Tests and Treatments Dr Gorard performs the following endoscopic procedures: • Gastroscopy (upper GI endoscopy) • Colonoscopy and polyp removal (Dr Gorard is an accredited colonoscopist within the national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme). • Sigmoidoscopy • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) to enable gallstones to be removed from bile duct. Dr Gorard is an experienced consultant, used to dealing with all aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. He sees individuals who have symptoms of / conditions relating to: • dyspepsia / heartburn, abdominal pain, weight loss, swallowing problems • bowel disorders including diarrhoea, rectal bleeding, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, screening for colon polyps and cancer (accredited colonoscopist in the UK Bowel Cancer Screening Programme). • Liver disorders and pancreas diseases
