About Dr Clare Skinner
Dr Skinner is a specialist emergency physician. Dr Skinner believes that if a patient is worried and cannot seek their usual care, they should visit their local emergency department. Dr Skinner views the emergency department as the bridge between the hospital and the community. The emergency department's role is to diagnose the medical concern causing the person to present to the emergency department and then determine the best acute treatment before guiding people to their next stage of care. Around 70% of patients who present to emergency departments are discharged home, so the emergency department transitions their care back to their general practitioner and other community-based health professionals. Dr Skinner chose emergency medicine because they enjoy solving complex problems and thinking on their feet. Dr Skinner is a great people person. Dr Skinner is passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion in health services.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
