About Dr Carla Plymen

Dr Carla Plymen – Consultant Cardiologist & Heart Failure Specialist Dr Carla Plymen is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Failure Specialist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working across Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals. Since her appointment in 2016, she has led the Heart Failure team, overseeing an integrated service that spans both hospital and community care across North West London. A graduate of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical Schools (2001), Dr Plymen completed her MRCP (UK) in 2004 and higher specialist training in cardiology before receiving her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2015. She has particular expertise in diagnosing and managing complex heart failure conditions, including those linked to coronary disease, inflammation, amyloidosis, pregnancy, sarcoidosis, inherited disorders, and cancer therapies. Dr Plymen is also a passionate educator, researcher, and advocate for patients. She has delivered invited lectures nationally and internationally, authored numerous publications, and played a leading role in developing innovative digital technologies for remote patient monitoring. Dr Plymen obtained an MD(Res) degree at UCL in 2014. Known for her approachable and collaborative style, Dr Plymen takes time to listen, explain, and involve patients in decisions about their care. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she is able to support a diverse patient community. Her goal is simple yet powerful: to help people feel better, regain confidence, and take control of their heart health with access to the latest evidence-based treatments.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
