About Prof John Timperley
If you need a hip replacement, a complex hip replacement or a revision (re-do) hip consider making an appointment to see Prof. John Timperley. John is an experienced surgeon whose specialist practice is focused entirely on hip replacement surgery using a tendon-sparing approach (minimally invasive SPAIRE technique) with MAKO robotic assistance. He works in a team that has developed a hip that is one of the most implanted types of hip replacement in the world and one of the most successful in all national Joint Registries. John has helped develop robotic assistance and pioneered an advanced tendon-sparing technique which he has used in all cases of primary hip replacement for the last 10 years. This minimally invasive approach to the hip is known as the SPAIRE technique which involves division (and subsequent repair) of only one small tendon. The SPAIRE technique allows patients to mobilise without any post-operative restriction to their activities and to return to all activities, without restriction. The SPAIRE technique is facilitated by the use of robotic assistance and this SPAIRE/ROBOT is Prof. Timperley's standard of care. Professor Timperley has been President of the British Hip Society and has served on the Executive of the British Orthopaedic Association. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree at the University of Oxford and has an Honorary Chair in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter. He is involved in many research projects related to the hip in collaboration with other centres of excellence, including Sahlgrenska University hospital, Sweden, and Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. John is regularly invited to lecture and teach at international meetings. He has published numerous book chapters and multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals each year.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
