About Miss Alexandra Cope

Miss Alex Cope qualified in medicine from St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College, in 2001. She began her surgical career on the Basic Surgical Rotation at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 2004. Her higher surgical training took place within the Oxford Deanery, where she combined full-time clinical work with a Master’s in Surgical Education. She later became an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds and was awarded the Harry Morton Travelling Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons, enabling her to study medical education at leading centres in Canada.

Miss Cope has contributed significantly to surgical education, establishing a simulation programme for Core Surgical Trainees in Oxford and appearing in media discussions on medical simulation. In 2016, she was appointed Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she works across Frimley Park, Wexham Park, Heatherwood, and King Edward VII Hospitals. Her clinical expertise lies in minimal access colorectal cancer surgery, benign colonic and rectal disease, and advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She is also a JAG-accredited colonoscopy trainer and serves as Training Programme Director for Higher Surgical Trainees in Thames Valley.
