About
He is the highest volume infrapubic penile implant surgeon in the United Kingdom and among the highest volume Peyronie’s disease surgeons nationally. Professor Modgil is internationally regarded for his expertise in the infrapubic penile implant technique and regularly mentors surgeons across Europe, the Middle East, USA and beyond.
With over 80 peer-reviewed publications contributing to the evolving evidence base in andrology and men’s health. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Trends in Urology & Men’s Health, Vice Chair of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Section of Andrology and Genito-Urethral Surgery, and Associate Surgical Specialty Lead for Andrology at BAUS and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is also Director of the Manchester Andrology Research Collaborative (MARC), a high-output research network with over 30 peer-reviewed international publications, focused on advancing evidence-based andrology and men’s health.
Professor Modgil leads Male Factor Infertility services at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, where he introduced microsurgical techniques to the North West of England and established a multi-site specialist multidisciplinary team for complex infertility care. His clinical practice spans erectile dysfunction surgery, Peyronie’s disease, male infertility, testosterone deficiency, ejaculatory disorders, and complex peno-scrotal reconstruction.
His academic and clinical contributions have been recognised with the prestigious BAUS Golden Telescope Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Urology, awarded within ten years of consultant appointment—an honour he achieved in just his seventh year, reflecting the scale and pace of his impact on the specialty.
Professor Modgil trained at the University of Southampton, followed by higher surgical training in Manchester and Birmingham. He holds a Master’s degree with merit in Leadership for Health Service Improvement from the University of Birmingham. He completed an international fellowship in Perth, Western Australia (where he was nominated for Trainee of the Year), followed by a specialist fellowship in Andrology at University College London Hospitals, and advanced training in penile prosthetic surgery at one of the highest volume centres in the United States.
He is an active leader in international urology, having served on the European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines Panel for Male Sexual and Reproductive Health, the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) Young Researchers and Clinicians Committee, and contributing to the American Urological Association (AUA) International Research Working Group.
A committed educator, Professor Modgil is a question writer and examiner for the Intercollegiate FRCS (Urol) examination, served on The Urology Foundation Scientific Committee, and has previously been Andrology Section Editor for the Journal of Clinical Urology. He led social and digital media strategy for BAUS for over 13 years, helping shape modern engagement in urology.
