Dr Thomas MacLaren is a consultant psychiatrist at Re:Cognition Health, based in London (Wimpole Street).

He has extensive experience in general and older adult psychiatry and led the Brent Memory Service between 2018 and 2020. During this time, he introduced remote consultation services as well as an advice line for GPs, which was shortlisted for a Health Service Journal award. He was also instrumental in developing new care pathways for faster dementia diagnosis and treatment.

His specialist areas are:

Dr MacLaren began his career at St Thomas' Hospital and trained on the St Mary's Hospital Scheme in North West London. He joined the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2013 and became a specialist in 2017. He also holds a Master's Degree in Education from Imperial College London and uses his skills to develop mental health training for healthcare professionals, trainee psychiatrists, volunteers, and caregivers.

He became a consultant psychiatrist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 2020, where he provides mental health treatment to the Emergency Department and wards. He also works to improve support for alcohol addiction and works with local mental health teams in quality improvement.
