About Mr Sultan Qasim
Mr Sultan Qasim is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery. He completed his orthopaedic training in the East Midlands and undertook subspecialist fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at the internationally recognised Wrightington Hospital.
His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of foot and ankle conditions. This includes forefoot disorders such as bunions, toe deformities, forefoot pain, and toe replacement surgery; midfoot arthritis and deformities including flatfoot; hindfoot arthritis, deformities, and heel pain including Achilles tendinopathy; and ankle conditions such as arthritis, deformity, ankle replacement, and arthroscopic ankle fusion. He also manages sports-related injuries, including ankle instability and conditions treated with arthroscopic ankle surgery.
Since 2017, Mr Qasim has held a consultant appointment with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working across the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital. He has been Clinical Lead for Orthopaedic Trauma at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and is the regional orthopaedic lead for diabetic foot conditions, including Charcot arthropathy. He also leads the tertiary referral service for complex neurological foot and ankle deformities at Freeman Hospital.
Mr Qasim is actively involved in education and research. He contributes to national orthopaedic training courses, supervises medical students at Newcastle University, and has led national multi-centre studies focused on ankle injury rehabilitation, ankle fractures, diabetic foot disease, and total ankle replacement.
