Plastic Surgery
About
Mr Heppell studied medicine at the University of Leicester and qualified in 1993. He then undertook Officer Training at the Royal Academy Sandhurst, before continuing surgical training in Leicester, London, Frimly Park and Southampton. This gave him a well-rounded general exposure to surgery prior to his specialisation in plastic surgery. During this time, he attained FRCSEd qualification.
Mr Heppell began surgical training in 1996 at the Royal Hospital Haslar, and continued his education at East Grinstead, Stoke Mandeville, Salisbury and Oxford. He received comprehensive training in all facets of plastic surgery during this time, including breast surgery, hand surgery, burns treatment, craniofacial surgery and reconstruction. After successfully passing the specialist plastic surgery examinations (FRCS [Plast]), he pursued further specialist fellowships in both breast reconstructive surgery in Toronto, Canada and microvascular reconstruction fellowship Winnipeg - also in Canada. In 2007, Mr Heppell took up an NHS post as a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.
Mr Heppell has had many articles published and is a contributor to the book 'Oxford Handbook in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery'. As a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps, he has served in Northern Ireland, Germany and Cyprus and been deployed to Afghanistan treating war casualties.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
