Dr Shveta Monga
Cardiology
About
She currently works as a Consultant Cardiologist at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she is actively involved in clinical care, research, teaching, and service development.
Dr Monga has extensive experience managing a broad spectrum of cardiovascular conditions. Her clinical practice focuses on arrhythmias, cardiac devices, cardiomyopathies, inherited cardiac conditions (ICC), heart failure, and sudden cardiac death prevention. She is BHRS-accredited in cardiac devices and performs complex implant procedures, including cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT), conduction system pacing, and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICDs). She regularly assesses and treats patients with palpitations, chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness, syncope, and unexplained blackouts.
Dr Monga has a strong academic background. She was awarded a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Fellowship to undertake a DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford, completed in 2023. Her doctoral research focused on cardiac energetics and metabolism in aortic stenosis and cardiac hypertrophy, using advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques, and explored novel therapeutic approaches in aortic stenosis and heart failure.
Committed to delivering evidence-based, up-to-date cardiac care, Dr Monga has a particular interest in developing and improving inherited cardiac condition pathways, including the integration of genetic testing and innovative pacing strategies. She leads a hub-and-spoke model locally to enhance access to ICC services, working closely with tertiary centres to deliver equitable, high-quality care.
Dr Monga obtained her primary medical degree in India in 2008 and moved to the UK in 2009 for postgraduate training. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2014 and completed her cardiology training across the South West of England and Oxford.
She is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her work at leading national and international cardiology conferences. Her research achievements and clinical leadership have been recognised with multiple awards from UK and international cardiology societies. Dr Monga continues to collaborate on research projects focused on heart rhythm disorders, novel pacing therapies, and cardiac genetics, alongside her busy clinical practice.
