About Dr Sam Smith
Dr. Samuel Smith is a UK-trained Consultant Gastroenterologist with full Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation in both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and is an accreditated Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopist, thereby achieving high standards in endoscopy. He specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of gastroenterology and liver diseases, with a particular subspecialist interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Dr. Smith completed his medical training (MBChB) and earned a degree in psychological medicine (BMedSci (Hons)) at the University of Birmingham in 2009. He later completed his higher specialty training in Gastroenterology, resulting in his appointment as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in 2022. During his training, he further developed his interest in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and endoscopy by completing a PhD entitled “Advanced Endoscopic Techniques in the Lower Gastrointestinal Tract” at the University of Birmingham. His research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented at international meetings, including chairing sessions. Dr. Smith has worked across various secondary and tertiary centres in the West Midlands, including a 12-month placement at the internationally recognised Liver Transplant Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. With his enhanced training and expertise, he is dedicated to providing a personalised, evidence-based service. Dr. Smith listens attentively to his patients' concerns, clearly explains diagnoses and required investigations, and works collaboratively to develop tailored treatment plans.
