Mr Richard P Stevenson
General Surgery
About
He graduated in medicine with an MB ChB from the University of Aberdeen in 2006. Early in his career, he was awarded a prestigious Cancer Research UK Research Fellowship at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, where he investigated the malignant transformation of colitic cells in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. This awarded him a PhD from the University of Glasgow in 2014.
Following completion of advanced higher surgical training, he was appointed Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, reflecting his ongoing commitment to academic surgery.
He provides comprehensive care for a wide range of colorectal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, irritable bowel syndrome, incontinence, haemorrhoids, anal fissures and fistula-in-ano, as well as functional bowel disorders such as constipation and prolapse.
Mr Stevenson has received numerous awards and prizes, published a book and 37 peer-reviewed papers, and presented his research at over 20 national and international meetings.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
