Dr Raghavan Unni is a highly experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interests in Total/partial hip and knee replacement surgery with advanced specialisation in Revision Hip and Knee arthroplasty.
He also specialises in sports knee surgery such as ACL reconstruction and knee arthroscopic surgery.
With more than 26 years' experience in orthopaedics, Raghavan is actively involved in education and teaching and is a tutor at Melbourne University. He has held the post of director of trainees at Western Health and also the Director of Research for all Victorian Orthopaedic trainees. He is currently an assessor for the Victorian Audit of Surgical Mortality.
Raghavan completed Fellowship in Arthroplasty and Trauma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital before moving to Melbourne in 2000 to work in both rural and metropolitan areas.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.(AOA)
Raghavan encourages close collaboration in patient's care between all health professionals to improve communication, maintain safety and optimise patient outcomes. He is happy to speak with physicians/ GPs to offer pre-referral advice, answer any specific clinical queries, or assist with any urgent consultation for their patients. Raghavan is multilingual and can speak number of Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam. He is extremely compassionate with patients and their care and takes pride in supporting them through their surgical journey.
Raghavan regularly updates himself academically by participating in continuing orthopaedic education such as conferences and visitations both nationally and internationally, training in the US, UK, Germany, Italy and Switzerland to keep up to date with orthopaedic advancements.
Raghavan utilises advanced technology such as computer navigation, 3-D printed models and Patient Specific Instruments (PSI) and Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) for hip and knee replacements and revision surgeries. He has a special interest in complex hip and knee surgeries including revision surgeries.
