About Prof Peter Irving
Professor Peter Irving is a Consultant Gastroenterologist situated at London Digestive Health, recognized globally for his proficiency in the discipline. With a career spanning over 20 years, his primary focus lies in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, in addition to irritable bowel syndrome and general gastroenterology. He is an adept endoscopist who performs gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and capsule endoscopy. He completed his medical education with distinction from the University of Cambridge and London Hospital Medical College in 1995. His interest in research emerged during his postgraduate training, particularly in the realm of inflammatory bowel disease. Subsequently, he pursued further research in IBD at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Notably, his contributions in pioneering research on the low FODMAP diet during this period revolutionized the management of irritable bowel syndrome upon his return to the UK. His previous involvement includes serving on the committee for the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Section of the British Society of Gastroenterology, as well as chairing the Education Committee of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation and sitting on the Education Committee of the United European Gastroenterology Foundation. Within the academic sphere, Professor Irving is Professor of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at King’s College London. His knowledge in the field is reflected in his extensive portfolio of over 250 publications and authorship of three books..
