Jagdeep Nanchahal is the Professor of Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford and his NHS clinical practice is based at Imperial College Hospitals, London. He graduated from medical school in London and completed his plastic surgery training in the UK before undertaking fellowships in hand and microsurgery in Australia and the USA.
His clinical interests relate to surgery of the upper and lower limb, especially patients with nerve compression, tendon disorders, Dupuytren's disease, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. He has a particular interest in microsurgical reconstruction.
His research has won several national and international awards, including twice from the British Hand Surgery Society and on four occasions from the Australian Hand Surgery Society. He has published over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, USA, Journal of Clinical Investigation and the British Medical Journal, as well as the major hand and plastic surgery journals. He has also contributed to various books, including the current edition of Gray"s Anatomy.
