Professor Andrew Price is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust and Professor of Musculoskeletal Science at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his undergraduate medical training at University of Cambridge and St Thomas' Hospital, before undertaking a PhD at University of Oxford. His orthopaedic training was also completed in Oxford, based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
He is a Fellow of Worcester College, where he serves as Director of Studies for Clinical Medicine.
Professor Price specialises in knee surgery, managing both paediatric and adult knee conditions. He has undertaken advanced fellowship training in knee surgery in Melbourne, Australia, and performs a wide range of procedures including total and partial knee replacement, osteotomy, revision knee replacement, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, cruciate ligament reconstruction, patellar stabilisation, and cartilage repair techniques.
He has a particular interest in cartilage injuries in younger patients and established a dedicated cartilage repair service at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. As part of this work, he introduced autologous cartilage implantation techniques to the unit.
Alongside his clinical practice, Professor Price leads an extensive musculoskeletal research programme at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Botnar Research Centre. His research focuses on the progression of osteoarthritis, advances in cartilage repair, phenotype-specific joint replacement, and outcomes of orthopaedic interventions in young adults.
