About Dr Niv Bhamber
Mr Niv Bhamber is a highly skilled Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where he manages the full spectrum of knee problems, from sports injuries in younger, active patients to complex arthritis and revision knee replacement in older adults. He provides care for both elective and trauma-related knee conditions. Mr Bhamber’s medical training began at University College London, followed by foundation training in the Oxford deanery. He subsequently completed Orthopaedic Core Training in Nottingham and higher surgical training on the South West London Orthopaedic Training Programme, gaining broad experience at major centres including St George’s Hospital and SWELEOC in London. After completing his orthopaedic training, Mr Bhamber undertook advanced specialist knee and sports fellowships to refine his expertise. These include the Royal College of Surgeons Sports Knee and Arthroplasty Fellowship and the Royal Berkshire Specialist Knee Fellowship. He then completed the world-renowned Patellofemoral Fellowship in Bristol, where he treated complex patellofemoral problems such as anterior knee pain, kneecap maltracking and recurrent patellar dislocations. These fellowships have equipped him with advanced skills in limb alignment and osteotomy, ligament reconstruction (including ACL and multi-ligament surgery), meniscal repair and joint preservation procedures, as well as the management of complex knee instability and deformity. In parallel, Mr Bhamber has dedicated significant time to knee arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery at leading specialist centres, including the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol, the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford and the Knee Reconstruction Unit in Exeter. His work in these units focused on total knee replacement, unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, complex revision knee surgery and the use of cutting-edge techniques such as robotic-assisted knee replacement. He was subsequently appointed as a Locum Consultant in Exeter, specialising in advanced knee replacement surgery, before taking up his substantive post as a Knee Consultant at Milton Keynes University Hospital. In his current role he is the Knee Lead for the National Joint Registry, participates in the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and is actively involved in teaching and supervision of orthopaedic trainees. Mr Bhamber’s clinical practice encompasses: • ACL reconstruction and multi-ligament knee surgery • Meniscal repair and joint preservation • Limb osteotomy and realignment for deformity and arthritis • Patellofemoral (kneecap) pain, maltracking and instability • Total and partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement • Robotic-assisted and complex revision knee replacement He is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), the British Patellofemoral Society (BPFS) and the Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) group, reflecting his commitment to specialist knee practice and modern, technology-enhanced surgery. Above all, Mr Bhamber is committed to providing individualised, evidence-based care. He places strong emphasis on clear explanation, open communication and shared decision-making, so that each patient fully understands their diagnosis and treatment options and can return to the activities that matter most to them.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
