He is a substantive NHS Consultant and Corneal Lead for the Cornea and External Diseases Service at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, an associate teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge and the main clinical base for the University of Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine.
He holds both a Medical Degree (MBBS) and a BSc (Hons) in Optometry from the University of London. He completed his basic ophthalmic training in the East of England, including Cambridge University Hospitals, and undertook higher specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital. He subsequently completed fellowships in corneal and cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is a member of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Cataract and Cornea Research Group and has published more than twenty peer-reviewed scientific papers, including landmark studies. He was first author of the world’s first publication reporting one-year results from a randomised controlled trial on laser-assisted cataract surgery, which has received international recognition. He has also led and contributed to research projects overseen by the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
He is the recipient of the prestigious Duke-Elder Prize in Ophthalmology, awarded by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, as well as several other national prizes including awards from the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine. Passionate about education and training, he is a Skills Faculty Trainer at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and teaches medical students from Cambridge University in his role as Corneal Lead.
His clinical interests include cataract, corneal and external eye diseases, refractive cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implants, complex and laser-assisted cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange, correction of refractive errors and astigmatism, corneal laser refractive surgery, corneal transplantation (including endothelial and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty), corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus, pterygium surgery, management of recurrent corneal erosion and superficial keratectomy.
Mr Stanojcic is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for each patient. He personally examines his patients, including detailed refraction assessments, to gain a comprehensive understanding of their visual needs before recommending or performing treatment, ensuring care that is precise, individualised and outcome-focused.
