Following the completion of a Physics degree at Oxford University, she undertook a Masters degree in Audiology at Southampton University in 1996. She then trained as an Audiological Scientist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, attaining the Certificate of Audiological Competence in 1997.
Mrs Holt worked in Berkshire until 2002 and then moved to Staffordshire, where she worked initially with children with hearing loss and then with adults with hearing and balance difficulties. Since 2005, she worked as a Consultant Audiological Scientist at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire until the birth of her first child. Subsequent years were spent developing services at her family practice, in addition to other private work.
