During his training, Mr Hammond was awarded the Colon & Rectal Disease Research Foundation Prize by the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland (ACPGBI) for his study on the role of biomaterials in the management of parastomal hernias and anal fistulas.
Mr Hammond specialises in colorectal and hernia surgery. He is an expert in hernia surgery (groin, abdominal wall, incisional and umbilical hernias). Mr Hammond has a special interest in the treatment of anal pathologies (haemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissures), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticular disease and bowel cancer. He performs both open and laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery as well as upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy).
Mr Hammon has co-authored a number of textbook chapters and has also been a reviewer for some of the most eminent journals in the field of general surgery.
