Mr Richard Lovegrove is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon with an interest in the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and the management of colorectal cancer. He also has an interest in the management of hernias and perianal conditions such as fistulas, haemorrhoids, and pilonidal sinus. He has expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and enhanced recovery protocols to give his patients the best possible outcomes. Mr Lovegrove sees patients at the The Droitwich Spa Hospital and Spire South Bank Hospital.

Mr Lovegrove qualified from King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed his basic surgical training in the North West Thames region of the London Deanery. He then undertook a research degree at Imperial College London. Mr Lovegrove's higher surgical training was completed within the Oxford Deanery which included time on the IBD surgical unit at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. He has also completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Toronto. 




In 2007, Mr Lovegrove was awarded the Colorectal Disease Prize for best paper at the European Society of Coloproctology Annual Meeting. He also achieved the Lewis Dunn Scholarship in Colorectal and Oncologic Surgery in 2013. 




His current research interests are in the outcomes following ileal pouch surgery and surgical treatments of Crohn's disease. He has published his work in numerous journals including the British Journal of Surgery, the World Journal of Surgery, and the European Journal of Surgical Oncology. He also offers courses to GPs on a range of colorectal and proctological conditions.
