About Mr Peter Driscoll
Mr Driscoll is a Consultant Surgeon with over 25 years of experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) and open surgery. He is an expert in advanced keyhole surgery for gallstones with a huge experience of gallbladder removal (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) and both advanced endoscopic (ERCP) and laparoscopic procedures to clear gallstones from the bile duct. He is also an expert in the repair of all types of abdominal and groin hernia, directing a masterclasses for fellow consultants from across the country..
Mr Driscoll has developed a specialist practice in the treatment of sports-related groin pain (Sportsman's Hernia / Gilmore's Groin). Having spent time with Professor David Lloyd in Leicester, he is the only surgeon in Scotland trained and approved to perform The Lloyd Release Procedure—an innovative and effective surgical treatment for groin pain in athletes. With over 10 years' of successful procedures in professional and amateur sportsmen and women, Mr Driscoll offers detailed clinical assessment, investigation and treatment tailored to the individual patient so that they may continue to enjoy their chosen sport.
Mr Driscoll is based at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy and Spire Edinburgh Murrayfield Hospital. After a degree in Physiology from St Andrews University, he graduated in Medicine from the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1996 and came to Edinburgh for his surgical training in 1998. Over the next 10 years he gained wide-reaching experience in all aspects of general and specialised surgical procedures under the tutiledge of internationally renowned surgeons, also completing an MD doctorate and a specialty fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. He was appointed as a Consultant in Fife in 2010 and has a proven record in the improvement of services in upper GI cancer, gallstone disease and complex hernia repair.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Driscoll is highly committed to surgical education, instilling the same enthusiasm and attention to detail that he applies to his own practice. He teaches medical students from the University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews, and mentors junior surgeons within the Fife surgical unit. He acts as faculty on numerous training courses run by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is an examiner for The College. His extensive involvement in local, national and international teaching has earned him the auspicious Fellowship of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
