Over

Mr Sarangi is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and has run a clinical practice for the past 18 years based at the Bristol University Teaching Hospitals (Bristol Royal Infirmary & Southmead Hospital). During this time he has established a specialist shoulder practice serving the local population in and around Bristol, dealing with complex shoulder problems of patients referred by consultant orthopaedic colleagues throughout the South West. 1500 new shoulder cases are referred to his NHS and private practice and he performs approximately 600 operations each year. He has developed highly specialized skills, particularly pertinent in the management of shoulder trauma, for example surgery for humeral non-unions for which his extensive experience has received recognition. More specifically, he has a large personal series of Neer reconstruction operations for complex fractures of the shoulder. Based on rigorous assessment of his specific operative results he have modified surgical techniques accordingly and continue to strive to improve the surgical management of osteoporotic fractures around the shoulder. Mr Sarangi has also developed an expertise in the diagnosis, evaluation and management of the painful shoulder, his professional interest is in the development of specialist surgical techniques for the surgical management of the arthritic shoulder. In this regard in 2002, he introduced the use of reverse geometry shoulder replacements for the management of rotator cuff deficient shoulders, failed shoulder replacements and the post traumatic shoulder. The teaching and specialist training of junior medical staff remains of central part of his clinical practice and several of his registrars have progressed to become established consultant upper-limb surgeons across the UK having worked under his tutelage. More recently Mr Sarangi has become increasingly active in demonstrating advanced surgical techniques and clinical methods to established surgeons. He regularly receives visiting consultants from the UK and Europe to his unit as well as recieving invites to visit specialist shoulder surgery departments elsewhere.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
