Mr Omer Karim, Consultant specialising in robotic surgery for prostate treatment (Da Vinci Prostatectomy). He was one of the first doctors within the UK to be formally training in robotic surgery, a leading innovator of this technology.
Mr Karim began his medical training at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School graduating with a Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery. He then went on to train in teaching hospitals in the UK and abroad. He began his specialisation in robotic surgery in 2004, completing over 2000 successful procedures for kidney and prostate cancer. He has also performed over 500 open radical prostate cancer procedures, before helping to establish robotic urology surgery. He underwent a research degree in the US and was essential to the current understanding of prostate cancer and the development of treatment plans like laser surgery for enlarged prostates.
He is also business-minded, establishing several companies in which he is director, one of which is an AIM-listed medical diagnostic company that researches and develops skills for urological care technology.
