He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1991 and spent a year working as an anatomy lecturer before completing his basic surgical training. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1997. He later undertook two years of dedicated research, earning an MD degree, and has since published widely in medical and plastic surgery journals.
Mr Bahia completed his specialist training in plastic surgery in Edinburgh and at Canniesburn in Glasgow, followed by an advanced oncoplastic and microsurgical breast reconstruction fellowship in Newcastle. He further enhanced his expertise with a cosmetic fellowship at the Institute of Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery in London, where he trained alongside well-known surgeons including Jan Stanek, Dai Davies, and Nick Percival. During this time, he also appeared in television programmes such as 10 Years Younger and Embarrassing Bodies.
In addition to reconstructive surgery, Mr Bahia has a strong interest in aesthetic procedures, including abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast augmentation and reduction, correction of prominent ears, and facial rejuvenation treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Bahia contributes to medical education as an Honorary Senior Surgical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
