He undertook research into the effects of pre-operative radiotherapy on the colon and rectum at Bristol Royal Infirmary, supervised by Mr M Thomas, and was awarded an Enid Linder Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship. He gained further subspecialty expertise through an Ethicon Colorectal Laparoscopic Fellowship under Mr U Khot at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, followed by a Pelvic Floor Fellowship under Mr P Durdey at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, with a clinical practice focused on advanced laparoscopic and pelvic floor surgery.
