Mr Gnanachandran is committed to delivering exceptional, evidence-based

care for women with endometriosis (ESHRE guidelines) to women across Northamptonshire and neighbouring regions. He drives the services now and has gotten BSGE

accreditation for the Centre for Deep Infiltrative Endometriosis @

Northampton. Mr Gnanachandran jointly leads a multidisciplinary

team at the endometriosis centre">endometriosis centre at Northampton General Hospital, providing women with access to

expert treatment and specialist surgeons with severe and complex endometriosis collaborating

with a multidisciplinary team.  

He runs a one-stop

pelvic scan clinic in NGH and Threeshires Hospital for Irregular bleeding,

Pelvic pain and bloating, given fast diagnosis for endometriosis, endometrial

polyp, ovarian cyst, ovarian cancer and suspected endometrial cancer. 

 He routinely assesses for deep endometriosis in

patients with pelvic pain and pain during periods/ sex when scanning for pelvic

pain in reproductive-age women more than routine pain/bloating 

He has performed

over 70 laparoscopic hysterectomies in 12 months (01/01/2024- 01/12/204) for

fibroids, adenomyosis, and endometrial cancer conditions. 

 He provides a range of treatments for patients

with various gynaecological conditions, including pelvic pain (endometriosis,

PID adenomyosis, fibroids, ovarian cyst), heavy periods (fibroids,

adenomyosis), cervical abnormalities, ovarian/ adnexal masses, and early

endometrial or gynaecological-related cancers. 

Mr Gnanachandran is IOTA (International Ovarian Tumour Analysis) certified for

ovarian cyst/ ovarian cancer scanning, and he performs Uterus scanning based on

IETA (International Endometrial Tumour Analysis) for irregular bleeding.  

He is an

IOTA-accredited scanner for suspected ovarian cancer/ ovarian cysts with dermoid

cyst/ endometrioma/other conditions. 

He is well

known for his practice in the below clinic areas:

2) endometriosis with pelvic pain or infertility/subfertility or both

3) Laparoscopic surgeries, including laparoscopic hysterectomies as day-case procedures

4) Hysteroscopic procedures, including resection of fibroids, polyps and uterine septum.

5)  resection of endometriosis, Endometriosis Multidisciplinary care

6) open and Laparoscopic myomectomy (removal of Fibroids)




7) transvaginal scans, including 3-D scan for uterine abnormalities/ septum/ polyps and HyCOSY

Note: Mr Gnananchandran does not perform Obstetrics services or urogynaecological procedures, such as prolapse repairs.

Laparoscopic Surgeries

Mr. Gnanachandran has demonstrated significant expertise in laparoscopic surgery, performing over 75 laparoscopic hysterectomies just in the 2023-2024 financial year, in addition to numerous laparoscopic endometrial resections and laparotomies for adnexal masses. His extensive experience in these procedures ensures that his patients receive the best possible care and outcomes.

He routinely performs minimally invasive surgeries for complex gynaecological conditions, including laparoscopic hysterectomies, laparoscopic endometrial resections, and laparotomies for adnexal masses. This aligns with his focus on promoting and advancing laparoscopic techniques, ensuring patients receive the most effective and least invasive treatments.

Pelvic/ Transvaginal Scanning

In addition to his surgical skills, Mr. Gnanachandran has been involved in pelvic and transvaginal scanning for over 12 years.

He has taught and developed scanning skills for trainees and nurses, focusing on two-week wait and emergency gynaecology and fertility scans. He is accredited for IOTA (International Ovarian Tumour Analysis) scans for adnexal masses.

Teaching and leading

His passion for education is evident through his previous involvement in BSGE hysteroscopy workshops and pre-ASM workshops and his receipt of the Clinical Mentor Award from NGH. He has also organised and led scan workshops for BSGI and West Midlands trainees.

Mr Gnanachandran is an Honorary Lecturer at Northampton General Hospital, where he serves as the Gynaecology Lead for rapid access care and minimally invasive surgery.

Education

He completed his MBBS and MSc in Ultrasound at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and the University of Derby, respectively. His post-CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) fellowships in laparoscopic training and gynaecological cancer management were undertaken at University Hospital Coventry, St Michael's Hospital – Bristol, and University Hospital of Wales.
