Over
I am a Consultant Spinal Surgeon specialising in all aspects of spinal surgery, from the cervical spine through to the sacrum, with a particular specialist interest in paediatric and adult spinal deformity surgery. My practice includes the full range of spinal procedures including nerve root blocks and facet joint injections, microdiscectomy for disc prolapse, decompression surgery for spinal stenosis, spinal fusion, minimally invasive techniques, vertebroplasty, fracture fixation, and complex corrective surgery for spinal deformities in both children and adults. I also have extensive experience in the management of back pain and treat a wide range of spinal conditions including scoliosis, kyphosis, degenerative spinal disorders, spinal fractures, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and neck pain.
I have been a Consultant Spine Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2020, based at Queen's Medical Centre. Alongside maintaining a broad spinal practice, I have a particular focus on complex spinal deformity surgery, Paediatric scoliosis, and neuromuscular spinal conditions. I also have extensive experience in spinal trauma and revision spinal surgery. In addition to my clinical role, I serve as the Governance Lead for Spine Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals and am the Nottingham representative for the East Midlands Spine Network. I am actively involved in service development, quality improvement, and spinal education and training.
I graduated with an honours degree in Medicine (MBChB Hons) from the University of Leicester in 2004. I became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in 2008 and later achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma & Orthopaedics (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2017 before receiving my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2018. I completed higher specialist orthopaedic training within the East Midlands South Deanery and subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training in complex spinal surgery at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, alongside dedicated spinal trauma training in Leicester.
Alongside my NHS role, I practise privately at Spire Nottingham Hospital and Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital. I am actively involved in spinal research and have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including the European Spine Journal, Spine Deformity, Asian Spine Journal, and The Bone & Joint Journal. My research interests include spinal deformity outcomes, sagittal alignment, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), neuromuscular scoliosis, and perioperative optimisation in spinal surgery. I regularly present my work nationally and internationally at meetings including BASS, Eurospine, and EFORT..
