His pulmonology career began in 2011 with a three-year residency at Cairo University Hospitals, where he advanced to become a Pulmonology Consultant and Associate Professor.

His expertise includes interventional pulmonology (flexible bronchoscopy, medical thoracoscopy), pleural diseases, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung diseases, respiratory critical care, and pulmonary infections. Dr. Shaaban has also published 11 research papers in international journals and is actively involved in teaching medical students. He is a member of the European Respiratory Society and the Egyptian Society of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis.
