Dr Matthew Wheater
Oncology
About
I was appointed as a Consultant at University Hospital Southampton in 2011 having completed my specialty training in medical oncology in Wessex and Bristol. I undertook a 3 year Cancer Research UK research fellowship at the University of Southampton investigating signalling pathways in kidney cancer and was awarded a PhD in 2011.
I continue to maintain a research interest, primarily around the use of immunotherapy agents in advanced cancers and the management of side effects. I also work as part of a team focusing on the treatment of liver metastases for ocular melanoma where we have the worlds largest experience in the use of chemosaturation.
I work closely with the team on the Chalybeate Suite at the Spire hospital in Southampton for the delivery of medical treatment for cancer as well as with Sciensus for patients who chose to have treatment at home.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
