Mr Soares is a Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon. Qualified in 1992 after studying medicine at Porto University Medical School. Mr Soares has trained extensively in laparoscopic surgery since 1995, having undertaken training in Portugal (Porto and Lisbon), France (Strasbourg), Spain (Barcelona) and the USA (Seattle).

Mr Soares' broad training and international fellowships in laparoscopic surgery have enabled them to develop special interests within the broad field of laparoscopic surgery.

Mr Soares is a coordinator and organiser of basic and advanced laparoscopy courses. Founder and first President of the Portuguese Minimally Invasive Surgery Society and since 2010 has been the society Treasurer and has since been organising and coordinating the society's annual congress and the twice-yearly laparoscopic courses.

Main field of expertise is Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, TAPP5 technique which only uses three 5 mm incisions to repair the hernia. He is also an expert in Gallbladder surgery having lead the gallbladder surgery at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals.

Mr Soares is an amateur photographer, an active scuba diver and has been for many years a motorsport driver and currently races in a Caterham Super Seven.
