Over

Dr Karim H. Kantar is a highly trained Orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship sub-specilisation in adult & paediatric spine surgery. His expertise was honed across Australia & North America by working with Orthopaedic & Neurological Surgeons at premier teaching centres. Current specialist appointments are at major hospitals including Epworth Richmond, Austin Health & The Royal Children's Hospital.

Dr Kantar provides comprehensive spinal care. His particular areas of interest are adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, disc herniation/degeneration, cervical spine conditions & motion preservation (disc replacement surgery & Vertebral Body Tethering). Our practice philosophy is patient centered and evidence-base delivered. Nonoperative care is prioritised whenever appropriate after a personalised clinical assessment complemented by modern investigations. Minimally invasive spinal techniques and advanced technologies are employed when surgery is indicated.

After graduating with an MBBS from Flinders University in 2011, Dr Kantar completed his formation in Orthopaedic Surgery through the SA/NT program in 2021. Post Fellowship Education & Training (PFET) in Spinal Surgery was gained across several Australian Institutions such as Austin & Alfred Hospitals, Royal Adelaide Hospital & Royal Children's Hospital. He subsequently worked at the Children's Hospital of BC in Vancouver receiving a fellowship in paediatric spinal surgery in 2024.

Conditions treated across the spine in kids & adults include spinal deformity (scoliosis, kyphosis & spondylolisthesis), degenerative conditions (disc herniation, spinal stenosis, radiculopathy/sciatics, myelopathy & neurogenic pain) in addition to tumours & trauma.

Common surgeries performed include decompressions (microdiscectomy/laminectomy); tailored fusion techniques (ALIF/LLIF/TLIF/PLIF); scoliosis correction (anterior/posterior); cervical (ACDF/Disc replacement); SIJ fusion & multifidus reanimation

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Dr Karim Kantar
