Gastroenterology
About
Patients appreciate John’s empathetic and thorough approach. His clear communication style makes complex medical information easier to understand. He ensures patients feel listened to and supported throughout their care journey.
John has been a consultant at St George’s Hospital since 2017. He completed most of his specialist training in London, including at St Mark’s Hospital and the Intestinal Transplant Unit in Cambridge. He qualified from Oxford and Edinburgh Universities and holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London. John is an accredited National Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopist and is currently the clinical director for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in South West London.
Beyond clinical work, John is actively involved in research on topics such as the impact of nutrition on intestinal function and inflammation, new techniques to protect the oesophagus during heart procedures, and the effects of COVID-19 on patients receiving home parenteral nutrition. He also has leadership roles in regional bowel cancer screening and intestinal rehabilitation services, and is heavily involved in training the specialists of tomorrow at the St George’s National Endoscopy Training Centre.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
