He also completed fellowships in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto, and a lung transplantation fellowship at the University of Toronto. In 2022, he completed a course in Surgical Leadership at Harvard University.
He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Cardiac Surgery. Dr Al-Githmi is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has published more than 40 papers in international surgical journals.
