Univ. Prof. Dr. Heinrich Magometschnigg absolvierte sein Medizinstudium von 1974 bis 1980 an der Universität Wien. Seine Ausbildung setzte er an der Salzburger Paracelsus Medizinischen Privatuniversität (PMU) fort, wo er im Jahr 2003 zum Studiendekan bestellt wurde. Im Jahr 2006 erhielt er die Professur für Gefäßchirurgie und endovaskuläre Chirurgie und fungierte später als Dekan für Klinische Angelegenheiten. Univ. Prof. Dr. Magometschnigg ist Mitglied verschiedener medizinischer Vereinigungen und war von 2013 bis 2016 Mitglied des Universitätsrats der Universität Mozarteum.
Neben seiner medizinischen Karriere widmet sich Univ. Prof. Dr. Magometschnigg auch seinen weiteren Interessen. Er stammt aus einer musikalischen Familie und spielte ursprünglich Klavier, musste dieses jedoch aufgrund einer Dystonie des rechten Arms aufgeben.
