Dr Derek Lok
Fertility Medicine
About
Dr Lok’s expertise spans all aspects of assisted reproduction, including IVF, recurrent miscarriage, recurrent IVF failure, fertility preservation and egg freezing, pre-implantation genetic testing, and advanced reproductive and microsurgery for conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and ovulatory disorders. He is also recognised for his expertise in male fertility assessment and treatment, including performing micro-TESE (microsurgical testicular sperm extraction) for men with severe male factor infertility. In 2008, he cared for the first patient in Australia to have a baby conceived using egg freezing (vitrification) and IVF.
Known for his thorough, evidence-based and empathetic approach, Dr Lok focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying medical or structural factors that may affect a couple’s ability to conceive. He takes time to listen carefully to each patient’s story, developing tailored treatment plans designed to maximise the chances of success while ensuring patients feel informed and supported at every stage of their fertility journey. Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, he is able to communicate effectively with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Alongside his clinical work, he remains actively involved in mentoring and training within fertility medicine and reproductive surgery, contributing to the advancement of the specialty.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
