She holds a Bachelor's degree in Neurophysiology and a Master's degree in Development Studies; she also has two Postgraduate Diplomas in Psychology and Systemic Therapy. Furthermore, Dr Perera has completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She is a qualified Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapist and has completed numerous ACT specialisation courses including working with cancer cases, working with families and adolescents, working trans-diagnostically and working in the workplace.
Dr Perara has also been active in research, with her main research interests being the therapeutic role of foster carers, the role of early childhood attachment and beliefs about self-efficacy, systemic work with young people in post-conflict environments, and the delivery of ACT training courses in community settings. She is registered with the HCPC, British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (ACBS).
