She completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge and later undertook postgraduate training in medical law and medical education. She worked for more than three decades in the NHS, including substantive consultant posts at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust and Medway NHS Foundation Trust, where she held roles such as Lead for Sleep Services, Lead for COPD, Lead for Lung Cancer, Foundation Training Programme Director, Director of Medical Education, and Associate Medical Director for Education.

She has long-standing involvement in academic and educational work and has held positions as Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s Medical School and Senior Lecturer at Kent and Medway Medical School. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has published extensively, including systematic reviews, and is the author of the textbook Essential Respiratory Medicine, published in 2018. She is currently working on the second edition of this textbook.
