About

Dr. Michael Perkin is a distinguished figure in the field of paediatric allergy, holding positions as Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Allergy at St Thomas’ Hospital and Consultant in Paediatric Allergy at St George’s Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from St George’s Hospital Medical School (University of London) in 1993 and pursued further training in paediatrics, ultimately specialising in paediatric allergy.

Throughout his career, Dr. Perkin has been dedicated to understanding the underlying causes of allergies in children. His research interests focus on exploring the factors contributing to the development of allergic diseases, particularly in farming children. His doctoral studies investigated the protective factors against allergic disease in this population.

Currently, Dr. Perkin is co-leading a significant trial aimed at preventing food allergies in infants, known as the EAT Study. This groundbreaking research has the potential to reshape the approach to managing food allergies from an early age.

With his extensive expertise, Dr. Perkin provides comprehensive care and guidance on various allergic conditions affecting children, including food allergy, eczema, atopic asthma, rhinitis (hay fever), conjunctivitis, as well as specific drug and insect sting allergies. His clinical practice is informed by the latest research findings and evidence-based approaches, ensuring the best possible outcomes for his young patients.

Dr. Perkin has expertise in the following areas:

• Sublingual immunotherapy

• Skin prick testing and lung function measurements

• Food

• Aero-allergen

• Drug and venom allergies

• Allergen triggered asthma

• Eczema and hay fever

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
