Dr Ahmed completed his medical degree in India in 1995, followed by his clinical research in ‘Stroke in the Young' leading to his MD in 2001. After coming to the UK in 2002, he received MRCP in 2002. Dr Ahmed trained extensively in general medicine, stroke and Parkinson Disease in the Cambridge Deanery. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in Neurology in 2010 and later completed a Fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology in Zurich, Switzerland.
Dr Ahmed later completed research in Parkinson's Disease, dementia and dyskinesias at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College London and also received training at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery. He was awarded his Research MD and DIC from Imperial College London in 2012 and in the same year, became a Fellow of the European National Board. After that, Dr Ahmed completed specialist neurology training in the Severn Deanery in Bristol.
Dr Ahmed has clinical interests in a wide range of neurological conditions, including: movement disorders, Parkinson's disease, stroke, dementia, cerebrovascular disease and headache. He has specialist expertise in the treatment of cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, spasticity and Sialorrhea in Parkinson's disease.
Alongside his work as a consultant, Dr Ahmed is involved in teaching students and junior doctors in Colchester.
