About

I am a Consultant Haematologist working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and BMI The Chiltern at Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.

In both the NHS and Private sector I cover all aspects of general and malignant Haematology.

I see people with abnormal blood counts e.g. high or low haemoglobin (anaemia), white cells or platelets, unexplained enlarged lymph nodes or abnormal antibody levels including paraproteins.

I diagnose and treat people for blood cancers such as Myeloma, Lymphoma and Leukaemia. With the support of haematology and chemotherapy specialist nurses at BMI The Chiltern we provide expert and personalised care for all these disorders including chemotherapy if required.

I also give advice regarding thrombosis (blood clots), anticoagulation and bleeding disorders.

Background and experience:  I qualified in 1994 in Newcastle then worked at the Royal Marsden Hospital as a senior house officer in Oncology followed by 5 years as a Specialist Registrar in Haematology at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. 1 year of this was in the Leukaemia Research Laboratory.

After exams to become a member of the Royal College of Physicians and then a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists I was appointed Consultant Haematologist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust in 2003.

In the NHS I have held several leadership roles in the past 15 years: Clinical Director for Pathology, Trust Research Lead, Foundation Training Programme Director, Lead for Teenage and Young Adult Cancer, Clinical Director for Haematology & Oncology and I am now Associate Medical Director and Clinical Chair for the Division of Specialist Services.

I am a member of the Oxford/Thames Valley MDT where we meet weekly to discuss treatments and intermittently review guidelines and chemotherapy protocols. I regularly publish in the medical literature.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
