About Prof Eli Silber
Professor Eli Silber is an esteemed Consultant Neurologist with an impressive career spanning over two decades. He was appointed consultant neurologist at Kings' College Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (where he is the clinical lead) in 2000. Prof Silber is a highly experienced general neurologist, adept in diagnosing and treating various neurological conditions, including headaches, dizziness, vertigo, tremors, seizures, and fainting. He is actively involved in the care of acute neurological inpatients. Prof Silber's main area of expertise lies in the management of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other inflammatory conditions. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Regional MS Service at Kings College Hospital and a satellite service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This service focuses on diagnosing and managing individuals with MS, offering specialist opinions for complex cases, and assessing eligibility for disease-modifying therapies. Prof Silber is deeply committed to extending care for people with MS, and his research interests include various aspects of MS, such as mental health issues, palliative care for advanced cases, and MS in ethnic minorities. In addition to his work in MS, Prof Silber is actively involved in acute neurology, providing care for patients with urgent neurological emergencies. He collaborates closely with colleagues in acute general medicine and intensive care units to assess and manage complex and critically ill patients. He supports a regular HIV- Neurology clinic at Kings College Hospital. Prof Silber is interested in neurological rehabilitation and palliative care, offering support to patients with neurological disabilities and advanced conditions. He has served as the Neurologist on the National Council for Palliative Care's neurology working group and the European Medical Association's working group on palliative care in MS. Apart from his clinical work, Prof Silber is involved in research and has been a lead investigator in numerous clinical trials of novel therapeutic agents for MS. His contributions to the field of MS have been recognised with prestigious awards, including the Richard Cave award from the MS Society. Prof Silber is passionate about education and enjoys teaching. He has been nominated for teaching awards by his medical students and has supervised doctoral students. Additionally, he has contributed to the development of the MRCP exam as part of the specialist question group. Eli's journey in medicine began at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he studied medicine. He completed his neurology training in Johannesburg, South Africa, before moving to the UK in 1997. He furthered his career at Guy's Hospital in the Department of Neuroimmunology, where he conducted groundbreaking research for his MD thesis on the causes of disability in multiple sclerosis.
