He works privately at SJOG Eye Clinic Geelong and in public at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and University Hospital Geelong, where he trains and teaches. David has subspecialty fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery from the Eye and Ear Hospital (2010) and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (2012).
David is a strong proponent of innovative retinal surgery- he has published multiple papers in the field of retinal surgery and has developed and introduced surgical procedures to Australia. He has been involved with the Bionic Eye Project and has worked in East Timor, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and India. He is a member of the Australian and New Zeland Society of Retinal Specialists, the American and the European Society of Retinal Specialists.
