About

Mr Daniel Hancu is a highly experienced consultant specialising in general and colorectal surgery. He has expertise in performing laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures for conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal wall and groin hernias, and gallbladder issues. Additionally, he provides advanced surgical care for pilonidal disease, fistula-in-ano, parastomal hernias, and abdominal wall reconstructions.

After completing his medical degree in Romania in 2004, Mr Hancu undertook joint surgical training in general surgery across Romania and the UK, gaining his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2013. He has since worked in numerous UK hospitals as a colorectal surgical registrar (SpR), honing his skills in complex cases.

Mr Hancu pursued further expertise through two specialist surgical fellowships. He trained with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease team in Oxford and as a laparoscopic fellow at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. In 2021, he was appointed Consultant Emergency, General, and Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Committed to education, Mr Hancu serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer, teaching medical students from the University of Southampton. His patient-centred approach and expertise make him a trusted specialist in managing complex surgical and colorectal conditions.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
