About
He completed his medical training at the University of Leicester, graduating in 2009, before undertaking Clinical Radiology training at Nottingham University Hospitals and Royal Derby Hospitals, sub-specialising in GI imaging and abdominal interventional procedures. He then completed a one-year fellowship in gastrointestinal (GI) and Hepatico-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) imaging at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
He is skilled in ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI imaging with particular expertise in cancer detection and staging, bowel imaging, CT Colonography (CTC), liver, pancreatic, rectal and perianal MRI.
An Honorary (Clinical) Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine, he contributes to national research projects & UK-wide guideline development. He is GI radiology research lead at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and a member of the National Imaging Research Delivery Working Group for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). He is a central radiology reader for multiple local & national research studies, and chairs the East Midlands CT Colonography special interest group. His research interests include hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and inflammatory bowel disease. In 2022, Dr Clarke won the prestigious Royal College of Radiologists Robert and Elma Kemp Harper Prize for the best research paper on gastrointestinal radiology published in the Clinical Radiology Journal.
As Treasurer of British Society of Gastrointestinal & Abdominal Radiology (BSGAR), Dr Clarke is passionate about the advancement of abdominal radiology nationally. He was meeting president for the hugely successful 2021 & 2022 BSGAR annual meetings and is affiliated with the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) and European Society of Radiology (ESR).
Dr Clarke is an effective international educator, regularly invited to speak nationally and internationally, delivering >50 original presentations with excellent feedback. He has written multiple medical textbooks including 'FRCR Physics Notes: Medical imaging physics for the First FRCR examination', which is featured on recommended reading lists including the Society of Radiologists in Training & The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. He is also author of 'Chest X-rays for Medical Students’ textbook, listed on numerous university reading lists across the UK in both medicine and radiography, and ‘Abdominal X-rays for medical students’ textbook, which was highly commended at the 2016 BMA medical book awards.
