About

Mr Atanu Pal is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon with over seven years’ experience, practising at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. He specialises in robotic, laparoscopic, and open colorectal and general surgery, with experience spanning more than 5,000 procedures, and also serves as a proctor in robotic surgery.

Mr Pal provides comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions, including abdominal wall hernias (inguinal, femoral, umbilical, and incisional), proctological disorders, and the investigation and surgical treatment of colorectal disease. He also works closely with gynaecology teams in the multidisciplinary management of complex endometriosis involving the bowel, offering a collaborative and patient-centred approach.

He studied medicine at the University of Cambridge, graduating with distinction in 2004. He completed higher surgical training in the region and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in General Surgery in 2016. Following a research fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, he gained a Doctorate of Medicine, and further advanced his expertise through a colorectal fellowship in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Pal is actively involved in surgical and endoscopy training within the NHS and teaches nationally on courses covering trauma care and surgical decision-making. He regularly presents at international conferences and publishes peer-reviewed research. Outside of medicine, he enjoys recreational flying and running.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
